Abstract
Developing a straightforward diversity residency onboarding program and well-defined milestones throughout the residency is one means to help new residents get acclimated to both the profession as a whole and your library specifically. This article, written by a former library diversity resident, provides step-by-step tips organized by approximate time in residence to help residency coordinators design and implement a successful onboarding program. This article includes recommendations for goal setting, mentorship, and making the resident feel welcome, among other suggestions. Residents can also use this article as a tool to initiate conversations aimed at increasing their success and wellbeing throughout their residency program.
