Abstract
A new concept of reactive power minimization in nonsinusoidal systems is described. It is shown that the parameters of a shunt LC one-port connected at the load terminals can be chosen in such a way that such a one-port reduces the reactive power of a nonsinusoidal voltage source more effectively than a shunt capacitor of optimal capacitance. This holds true not only for nonsinusoidal voltage sources applied to linear loads, but also for such sources applied to nonlinear loads.
