Abstract
This study focuses on the inclusion complexes of pyrene with β- and γ-cyclodextrin (CD) in aqueous solutions. The stoichiometries and association constants of these complexes have been investigated by monitoring the I/III vibronic band intensity ratio for pyrene in the presence of CDs. The data are analyzed by both linear and nonlinear regression methods, which indicate 1/l γ-CD/pyrene and 2/1 β-CD/pyrene complexes. The estimated association constants are 250 M-1 and 8.53 × 105 M-2 for γ- and β-CD, respectively. A discussion of the stoichiometries of both systems using molecular modeling is included. © 1991 American Chemical Society.
