Abstract
A survey of agribusiness firms in Louisiana was undertaken to gather information regarding export experience and export plans. The survey revealed the firms are predominately small and that the likelihood of exporting increased with firm size. It also showed that exports accounted for less than 10% of total sales for the majority of firms. At present, few firms take advantage of government programs. Given their characteristics, it appears that agribusiness firms would benefit from programs that identify potential sources of export assistance. This paper suggests several cost effective means for meeting the export development needs of agribusinesses. © 1999 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
