Abstract
Freshwater prawns, Macrobrachium rosenbergii, were harvested from research ponds and stocked into a commercial soft-shell crawfish shedding facility. A total of 1,087 prawns (69%) molted over a 50-day period. Most molts (90%) occurred 24 to 40 days after stocking. Overall mortality was 15.8%, with peak levels occurring during the first 24 hours post-stocking and 3 to 5 days thereafter. The utilization of commercial soft-shell crawfish shedding facilities for summer and fall production of soft-shell prawns appears technically feasible. © 1993 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
