Abstract
This paper is based on a selection of types of archaeological textile remains from the eastern United States and includes three case studies involving technical description and cultural interpretation of the remains. The artefacts are from two eighteenth century forts, Fort Loudoun and Fort Southwest Point, both in east Tennessee, and from two prehistoric sites, one at Bayou Jasmine, south Louisiana and the other part of the Caddoan cultural area. The analysis is of metallic ribbon and woven fabrics from the forts and of braided cordage and fabrics from the prehistoric sites.
