Abstract
A study on the thermo-oxidative degradation of poly(ethylene terephthalate) is presented. The molecular weight distribution at different degradation steps was determined by use of turbidimetric titration. An analysis of the chemical and molecular transformations of the polyester during degradation was also made. It was found that vinylic end groups were involved in radical reactions and caused an increase in molecular weight in the final stages.
