Abstract
The validity of the pseudo-spin concept for heavy triaxially deformed nuclei is explored using the correlation coefficient measure between a generalized Nilsson Model Hamiltonian and the pseudo spin-orbit interaction. This correlation coefficient, which can be interpreted as a normalized measure for the probable goodness of pseudo-spin symmetry, indicates that although the near level degeneracy of pseudo spin-orbit partners in axial systems (prolate and oblate) is lost for triaxial geometries, the pseudo-spin symmetry breaking induced by the triaxiality is small and comparable to that found in the axial cases, and therefore pseudo-spin symmetry remains an important physical concept. © 1997 Published by Elsevier Science B.V.
