Abstract
The atomic and electronic structure of Ni following deposition of a monolayer on Ag(100) was studied using scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and synchrotron-based angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy (ARPES). STM results confirm that at room temperature Ni grows on Ag(100) in clusters that have a typical lateral extent of approximately 30 angstroms. The heights of these clusters are primarily 2-5 angstroms; however, some clusters are observed with a height of only approximately 1 angstrom.
