Abstract
The unconsolidated argillaceous and calcareous gas bearing formations offshore Adriatic Sea are very susceptible to formation damage due to rock completion fluid incompatibility. The laboratory experimental study on original core samples showed that industry accepted completion fluids such as NaCl, KCl or CaCl2 water solutions were actually causing the permeability impairment. The results of various tests, especially SEM analysis, showed that a new formulation of completion fluid - ammonium nitrate brine mixed with methanol, caused the least damage effects, promising to be the most compatible fluid for this type of formation.
