Abstract
This chapter discusses the healing efficiency characterization of self-healing polymers. Both qualitative and quantitative characterizations are discussed. Qualitative evaluation such as direct observation of healing and FTIR characterization of chemical bond reformation is presented in detail. Quantitative characterization and calculation of healing efficiency based on strength criterion and toughness criterion, especially toughness criterion per Mode I fracture toughness, Mode II fracture toughness, and mixed Mode I&II fracture toughness, are discussed, and formulated. Finally, the major findings of this chapter are summarized, and future perspectives in this research direction are proposed.
