Abstract
The coating of a thin, uniform layer of nickel on 8YSZ nanofibers using electroless plating was presented in this paper. 8YSZ nanofibers were fabricated by electrospinning a mixture of yttria and zirconia nano dispersions. The fibers were then densified by sintering to 1000 °C. To obtain the best coatings, the optimal concentrations of acidified hydrosols of SnCl2 and PdCl2 for pre-treatment were found. Ni-deposition behavior was studied by varying the coating variables, including the coating time and the pH values. The Ni-YSZ fibers can be used as potential anode material for solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs).
