A variational phase field model of hydraulic fracturing

Abstract
We present a fully coupled hydro-mechanical model for hydraulic fracturing, based on variational phase fields. We first focus on an infinite impermeable reservoir. After revisiting the classical problem of a single crack propagating, we show that simultaneous propagation of an array of parallel crack is never stable. We present numerical evidences that it is also the case in a permeable reservoir.
