Abstract
Last autumn, within a couple of weeks of each other, the Big D and the Big Easy saw the opening of major new sculpture gardens. Dallas's Nasher Sculpture Center, by Renzo Piano and Peter Walker, FASLA, fits squarely into an urban grid, while the Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden, by Lee Ledbetter and Brian Sawyer, fills a more-expansive niche in the New Orleans City Park, Each builds on the twentieth-century concept of placing collected works of art in designed landscapes. Turn the page for coverage of the Nasher Center; the Besthoff Sculpture Garden article appears on page 92.
