Abstract
To reduce the costs associated with warehousing and distribution, and to maintain a high level of customer service, a distributor of spare parts considers the addition of a central warehouse. The objective of this article is to study the benefits of creating such a centralized warehouse and to introduce the concept of virtual centralized warehousing. These alternatives are compared with a traditional distributed warehousing system in a two-echelon environment.
