Simulation-based backward pass approach for order release plans

Abstract
We address the problem of order release planning for a make-to-order production facility. The production management system generally associated with manufacturing is MRP. A simulation-based backward-pass approach to order release planning is discussed. This approach uses variable lead times determined by deterministic backward pass and forward pass simulation models. Lead times are state-dependent and therefore may change from period to period. An automated test procedure is developed and generalizations are made.
