Abstract

In a hypercompetitive world characterized by ever-changing business models and the emergence of a platform-based economy, locating a source of competitive advantage through innovation remains a constant challenge for firms. Yet, despite the importance of using IT-based solutions to solve business problems creatively, more is needed to know about the dyad behavior and communication processes that reach their creative potential when a dyad uses IT to produce creative IT solutions. In analyzing dyad behavioral and communicative patterns, we found that, although dyad creativity is positively associated with individuals’ creativity, this relationship is no longer significant after including characteristics of dyad processes in the model. We also found the interactional effects between characteristics of dyad processes and individuals’ creativity on dyad creativity. Based on the results, we propose a process view of dyad creativity for future research. Our findings also imply that organizations should, besides finding creative employees, foster work patterns and team processes to promote creativity in organizations.
