Abstract
This collection of poems proceeds from Richard Hugo’s assertion that, “the self as given is inadequate and will not do.” The collection of poems forms a loose narrative based around a central speaker’s quest for redemption. The poems inhabit territories of violence and humility in an attempt to allow the “I,” to transcend heredity and setting and engage with a power greater than the self.
