Abstract
“The Flat Woman,” occupies a space somewhere between poetry and prose, touching upon the issues of social and ecological change. An unnamed female protagonist lives in a fictional town where the Coca-Cola corporation thrives, yet the area’s ecological systems are dying. She follows her boyfriend, a climate-change activist, across the country, where their relationship falls apart in a surreal world, devastated by the effects of a planet in crisis. How I define myself as an artist is my desire to work against the traditional expectations of literature. The manuscript features dying birds, dying cows, and a surreal atmosphere.
