Abstract
The boundaries of identity: the invisible barriers between the self and society, between society and the world, between the world as it is and the world as it sees itself. Into the soul, then out into the universe. The Movement Between explores the issues of identity (empowering the self while recognizing limitations) in a confessional poetics that breaks free of the bonds of tradition and claims its own identity in an open field where each thought has its own shape. One Last Question frames its theories of identity, in a road trip movie, through the trials of Jacob Miller, who hits the road to recover his past because he feels the world in his present is against him. However, the journey veers into counter-culture (a community that finds its own identity by un-identifying with the larger society) where Jacob ultimately acknowledges his responsibility for and power over his own life.
