Abstract
In this novel set in 2007 New Orleans, the troubled time after Hurricane Katrina, a restauranteur, Beth Richmond, struggles to keep her business humming while her staff manages the stress of rebuilding after the storm. The losses of her executive chef include his home, his marriage, and his motivation to work, resulting in his crippling addiction. Meanwhile, the father of Beth’s son, absent for almost eighteen years, reappears in the spirit of curiosity and reconciliation. Because her industry saps much of her ability to connect to others, Beth finds herself lonely and isolated while constantly in the midst of others who need her. Reduced By Half is her story of discovering her priorities and learning how her heritage has made food her expression of love.
