Abstract
Organic/cement mixtures occur when contaminated inorganic sludges are mixed with cement for hazardous waste control. Frequently, the organic(s) interfere with solidification/stabilization of the sludge and render the process ineffective. In the present study, two similar organics were studied, p-bromophenol (PBP) and p-chlorophenol (PCP). A single organic was mixed with Type I Portland cement and allowed to cure. The resulting microstructures were examined using polarized light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy.
