Abstract
Renewable energy costs remain prohibitively expensive in many low- and some middle-income countries in the Global South. In a recent Joule article, Matthäus and Mehling show that risk pooling can reduce these costs. However, land-use competition, an equally challenging and interconnected problem—particularly in Southeast Asia and Africa—remains, requiring both technical and financial solutions.
