Abstract
The concept of orthogonal decomposition of the current of a nonlinear single-phase circuit with a nonsinusoidal voltage source into the active, the scattered, the reactive, and generated components is extended to three-phase asymmetrical circuits. It is shown that the source current in such a circuit can be decomposed into five orthogonal components which depend on distinctively different phenomena. Four of them have the same meaning as in the single-phase circuit, with only a change in their mathematical characterization. An additional orthogonal component appears in the current due to load asymmetry.
