Abstract
Some ideas and rules used in the past for the development of the currently existing power theories of electrical circuits are compiled in the paper. Such rules can be regarded as a meta-theory of electric power, meaning a theory that has other theories as its subject matter, in this case, power theories. Distinction of power theories from a meta-theory of electric power provides a clarification in debates on electric powers. Moreover, motivations, validation and comparison of power theories cannot be a subject of these theories, but a meta-theory of electric power. Also history of various approaches to power theories development, such as averaging and instantaneous approaches, time-domain and frequency-domain approaches, are compiled and discussed in the paper.
