An Oklahoma native, James holds two Bachelor of Arts degrees from the University of Central Oklahoma: one in History: Museum Studies (2017) and one in Humanities (2017). James also holds a Master of Arts in History: Museum Studies (2019) from the University of Central Oklahoma. He is currently a Ph.D. candidate in History from the University of Oklahoma. James is the Director of the William A. Brookshire LSU Military Museum and specializes in military history with a focus on World War I. He is an award-winning author for his scholarly articles and books. For instance, he won the Colonel Robert D. Heinl, Jr. Award from the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation for his article “A Calamity of Errors: The Untold Story of the 5th Regiment at Blanc Mont Ridge on 4 October 1918” and a Tomlinson Book Award from the World War I Historical Association for his book, Unraveling the Myth of Sgt. Alvin York: The Other Sixteen.
