Abstract
This paper describes the use of transient absorption to characterize the local reaction rates in Au-metallopolymer decompositions. Instead of considering line drawing with a scanning cw laser, the authors examined the formation of free-standing features with a variable pulse duration stationary laser. In two-color experiments with spatial separation of the pump and probe beams the velocity of the reaction front can be determined. These results are shown to be consistent with a thermal reaction model. However, a variety of effects caused by the very large change in optical and thermal properties upon reaction prevent the direct application of the dot exposure results to the scanned line experiments.
