Abstract

The utilization of a polymer blend, copolymer, or the chemical modification of a homopolymer provides an attractive, more permanent alternative over some plasticized systems used in membranes (i. e. , problems associated with leaching). In this study, the steady state permeabilities and gas separation factors (alpha values) were obtained for the permeation of a 50:50 gas mixture of carbon dioxide and methane. The blends studied were that of various compositions of polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) and poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVF2), and their partially hydrolyzed derivatives with poly(methacrylic acid) copolymer.
