Abstract
Two (d8·d8)pσ binuclear complexes, Pt2(pop)45−(pop = P2O5H22−) and Rh2(TMB)4+(TMB = 2,5-dimethyl-2,5-diisocyanohexane), have been generated by pulse radiolysis of aqueous and acetonitrile solutions, respectively, of the corresponding d8·d8species. An intense absorption system attributable to the allowed dσ* → pσ transition is observed in the spectrum of each of the transients (420 nm, Pt2(pop)45−; 570 nm, Rh2(TMB)4+). © 1984, American Chemical Society.
