Abstract
The fundamental process of infrared (IR) matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization (MALDI) was investigated. A study of the mechanism of analyte ion formation was also reported. Two laser at different wavelengths for desorption and ionization were used. A better understanding of the mechanism behind IR MALDI is required for improvements in sensitivity, throughput and application to new sample systems.
