Abstract
Bunops scutifrons Birge 1893, previously reported from Wisconsin, was collected in the Atchafalaya River Basin in the summers of 1994 and 1996. Limnetic collections in 1994 yielded four individuals from a single site, whereas 1996 collections in littoral macrophyte beds yielded 43 individuals, with calculated densities ranging from 43.3 to 603.3 individuals/m3. The occurrence of B. scutifrons in a Louisiana riverswamp suggests that this cryptic macrothricid may be a rare, but widely distributed meiobenthic cladoceran in vegetated habitats throughout the Mississippi River valley. © 1997 Kluwer Academic Publishers.
