Abstract
The use of latest chemical treatments for durability improvement of structural wood composites is discussed. Preservative treatment of wood have a major effect on product properties and often requires changes in the manufacturing process. A number of factors that need to be taken into account when developing such a system include the nature of the preservative, nature of the wood furnish, nature of the adhesive, influence on panel properties from interaction of preservative with adhesive and wood, and the methods of preservative incorporation. Some factors involved with pretreatment of wood furnish, post treatment of finished products and online treatment are discussed.
