Abstract
In 2002, two studies were undertaken to determine Internet business applications and involvement by small wood products manufacturers in the Adirondack North Country Region of New York and the state of Louisiana. Perceptions of the Internet's value in promoting business growth is similar in both regions, with the majority of respondents agreeing that serving customers via the Internet can provide a competitive advantage and that selling products online is a cost-efficient way to do business. At the time the study was conducted, New York manufacturers were using the Internet more intensively than those in Louisiana, especially in terms of selling products online. New York respondent companies projected that a much larger portion of their sales will occur on the Internet by the year 2005 vis a vis Louisiana respondents.
