Abstract
The effects of the composite template system with fluoride on the acidity of H zeolite, and the probe reaction of methanol dehydration were studied. The acidity of H zeolite was related to the synthesis conditions. The composite template system was in favor of the incorporation of Al into the framework of Hβ zeolite compared with the traditional template system (without fluoride). The total acid sites, especially strong acid sites, in Hβ zeolite synthesized using the composite template system were more than those in Hβ zeolite synthesized using the traditional template system due to the change of aluminum configuration resulted from different crystallization mechanism of Hβ zeolite. The ratio of strong acid sites to weak acid sites in the former was markedly higher than that in the latter. The catalytic activity of the two Hβ samples for methanol dehydration was compared. Their methanol conversion was 72.6 and 43.5%, respectively, under the conditions of WHSV = 2/hr, θ = 180°, and t = 8 hr.
