Abstract
An improved two-stage camera calibration method was introduced. It took the sum of distance in the world coordinate between ground truth 3D points and calculated 3D points as cost function and made distortion coefficients of two cameras to be optimized at the same time. The 3D points' coordinate were calculated by means of the triangular measure based on camera model with distortion and the imitated direct linear transformation measure respectively, two new corresponding parameters optimization algorithms were also put forward. Simulation and experiment were made for 3D reconstruction with the parameters obtained by the traditional and improved calibration methods and the results show that the improved methods have much higher calibration precision than that of the traditional ones. © 2006 IEEE.
