Abstract
Flame retardancy of ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA) using ammonium polyphosphate (APP), charing-foaming agent (CFA) and 4A Zeolites (4AZEO) as intumescent flame retardants (IFR) was investigated. The influence of IFR contents and the ratio of APP and CFA on limiting oxygen index (LOI), UL 94 rating of EVA/IFR composites have been studied. It is found that the flame retardancy of the composites increases with increasing IFR contents, and the composite at the mass ratio of APP/CFA=3:1 at the same loading 28% shows the best flame retardant performance. The TGA shows that IFR with the suitable ratio of APP/CFA can enhance the thermal stability of the flame retardant EVA copolymer. The SEM shows that the EVA/IFR composites on burning can form dense and compact char, making them have the excellent flame retardancy. And the mechanical properties of EVA/IFR composites were studied too.
