Abstract
In this paper two new ternary amphiphilic rare earth complexes with monotetradecyl phthalate and 1,10-phenanthroline Ln(MTP)3phen(Ln=Eu, Tb) have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR spectra, TG-DTA analysis. Flurescence spectra showed that ternary rare earth complexes have more intensive emission compared with their binary carboxylate composition. The Langmuir films of the two complexes at the air/ water interface were also studied and results showed that all of them have good film forming property. The single molecule areas of Eu(MTP)3phen and Tb(MTP)3phen are 188. 7 Å2 and 194. 2 Å2 and the collapse pressures are 37. 33 mN/m and 36. 43 mN/m, respectively.
