Abstract
The relationship between Oxygen Index (OI) values, rates of burning (RB) at 45, 67. 5 and 90 degree angles, and ease of extinguishing flames of slow-burning fabrics were studied. The study utilized twill fabrics weighing 247 gm/m**2 of 100% cotton, 20/80 polyester/cotton, 35/65 polyester/cotton and 50/50 polyester/cotton fabrics with a range of eight add-ons of a fire retardant-durable press finish. Essentially linear correlations were found for OI and RB and for OI and angle of extinguishment.
