Abstract
We report the results of 11B-NMR measurements on CaB6. In an attempt to prepare a material with chemical composition close to stoichiometric CaB6, a slight excess of Ca was used in the sample preparation. Significant physical properties of CaB6 are an increase of the electrical resistance by four orders of magnitude below 300 K and the absence of ferromagnetic order above 2 K. The variation of T1-1 with temperature of CaB6 is similar to T1-1(T) of Ca0.995La0.005B6 and SrB6, but the magnitude of the relaxation rate of the former is one order of magnitude larger. This observation is interpreted as an indication that CaB6 still contains a non-negligible amount of self-doping, but the corresponding magnetic moments do not order spontaneously. © 2002 Elsevier Science B.V.
