Abstract
In the past few decades, nanotechnology has attracted a significant portion of the medical, scientific community due to the tremendous potential of nanomaterials in addressing numerous biomedical problems. From biomedical imaging to cancer therapy and drug delivery, nanomaterials have enormous potential to resolve the medical field׳s old and new convoluted issues. Although some concerns remain regarding the toxicity and biocompatibility of nanomedicine, it is possible to control the properties of nanomedicine and its components. One of the most attractive properties of nanomaterials is their multifunctionality capability. Accordingly, it is possible to engineer a nanomaterial that can simultaneously perform multi tasks such as, an imaging contrast and a targeted drug delivery system. Furthermore, nanomaterials can be designed to realize multimodality imaging capabilities. These properties, alongside the low cost and ease of nanomaterials synthesis, make them an attractive choice to substitute the conventional materials and methods. In this article, we have addressed and discussed the current trends in medical applications of nanotechnology, and briefly discussed the future of the field.
