Abstract
Recent developments on the assessment of fatigue degradation in composite materials within the framework of irreversible thermodynamics is presented. Also discussed is the early research on the entropic characterization of metal fatigue, followed by recent studies on composite materials. The advantages of the thermodynamic models that utilize entropy accumulation as a degradation measure are discussed, and applications of these models for treating fatigue degradation in composite materials are presented.
