Abstract
Nb-based alloy has shown potential applications in next generation turbine engine with higher temperature endurance and load bearing performance. A special layered MAX phase Nb2AlC has good oxidation resistance at high temperature (1200K-2100K). In this report, we studied the potential Nb-based alloys for matching Nb2AlC structure through ab initio density function theory method simulation. We studied the stability and interface bonding properties between Nb-Ti, Nb-Zr, Nb-Mo, Nb-Hf, Nb-Ta, and Nb-W compounds, with different additional elements, and Nb2AlC. Potential highly stable Nb-based alloys for Nb2AlC bond coat are discussed.
