Transport Infrastructure and Cross-Border Connectivity Indices in Border Cities: The Case of Southern Brazil
Abstract / Resumen / Resumo
The objective of this paper is to examine the relationship between cross-border transport connectivity, transport density and population dynamics in border regions of southern Brazil. We focus our empirical analysis on the case of southern Brazil border cities. Our findings demonstrate that cross-border location and network efficiency indexes are closely related and that these two indexes are also positively correlated to a transport density measure. We also find that population levels are positively related to network efficiency and transport infrastructure density indicators. Finally, as a policy recommendation, our evidence provides support for investments in transport infrastructure that optimizes border connectivity as a means to hinder disparities concerning border regions.
