Covid-19 and Tourism Risk in the Americas
Abstract / Resumen / Resumo
We propose a methodology for identifying the countries and regions of the world most at COVID-19 tourist risk. We hypothesize that countries most impacted by the current reduction in international travel will be those that most economically dependent on the physical circulation of touristic human beings. The more a country´s economy depends on tourism as a percentage of GDP, the more quickly and deeply it will be impacted by the cessation of touristic flows. Identifying the places most exposed to this risk will inform responses that ensure a more balanced, sustainable, and secure post-covid future.
