Lifestyle Transmigration: Understanding a Hypermobile Minority in Mérida, Mexico
Abstract / Resumen / Resumo
This article focuses on lifestyle transmigrants who have relocated abroad at least three times, documenting their practices of mobility and responses to structural constraints, and describing individual trajectories driven by the desire to live in many countries. These hypermobile migrants have chosen to live abroad for lifestyle reasons. Maintaining and boosting their mobility is among their top preoccupations, in stark contrast to the majority of lifestyle migrants who are, by comparison, relatively sedentary. Our findings support the view that lifestyle migration offers a flexible conceptual framework that applies to diverse groups of individuals practicing heterogeneous forms of geographic mobility.
