Abstract

The Recusant’s Dream is a collection of works that portray the overarching lore of an original narrative by Isabella Temperville. Inspired by Biblical narratives, The Recusant’s Dream tells the story of Lucifer’s rebellion against an order of power-hungry archangels and the consequences that follow in the form of an all-consuming curse. The curse is both a marker and a death sentence, as those who bear it are called “demons” and are fated to eventually succumb to it. Lucifer was the first to fall victim to the consumption and his death sparked an infernal war amongst the cursed and the order – a war that nearly caused the destruction of this world. The order emerged victorious and further exerted their influence and power in the form of Abrahamic religion. Demonkind was to forever be oppressed under their rule, awaiting the inevitable fate at the mercy of the curse. The message was clear. Anyone who opposed the order would fall one way or the other. But perhaps one day in the distant future, a curse-breaker will be born – a curse-breaker that will free all demons from their eternal punishment. However, that is a story for another time.

The EP was written mostly in Logic Pro X by physically performing parts on a MIDI keyboard and is meant to be experienced via fixed media. It was released on November 13th , 2024, on all streaming platforms.
