Abstract
A greenhouse study was conducted on November 18, and December 2, 2020 at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to evaluate the interaction between a pre-packaged mixture of halosulfuron plus prosulfuron mixed with propanil for alligatorweed control. Antagonism occurred when halosulfuron plus prosulfuron at 55 g ha-1 was mixed with propanil at 2,242 g ha-1 at all evaluation dates and antagonism was also observed with halosulfuron plus prosulfuron at 83 g ha-1 mixed with propanil at 2,242 g ha-1 at all evaluation dates except 14 DAT with observed controls of 69 to 77% compared with expected controls of 94 to 97%. Two field studies were conducted in 2021 and 2022 at the H. Rouse Caffey Rice Research Station near Crowley, Louisiana to evaluate the interaction of propanil mixed with halosulfuron, prosulfuron, or a pre-packaged mixture of halosulfuron plus prosulfuron for aquatic weed control in water-seeded rice. One study evaluated an emulsifiable concentrate (EC) propanil formulation (propanil-EC) at 3,363 g ha-1 , and the second study evaluated a suspension concentrate (SC) propanil formulation (propanil-SC) at 3,363 g ha-1 . Halosulfuron plus prosulfuron at 55 or 83 g ha-1 mixed with propanil-EC was antagonistic for alligatorweed at all evaluation dates with observed controls of 32 to 72% compared with an expected control of 79 to 90%. Halosulfuron plus prosulfuron at 55 or 83 g ha-1 mixed with propanil-SC was antagonistic for alligatorweed at 21, 28, and 35 DAT with observed controls of 55 to 67% compared with an expected control of 88 to 95%. Grassy arrowhead control, when treated with halosulfuron plus prosulfuron at 55 g ha-1 mixed with propanil-EC, had an observed control of 68% compared with an expected control of 97% resulting in an antagonistic response. Grassy arrowhead was only antagonistic at 28 DAT when halosulfuron plus prosulfuron was applied at 55 g ha-1 mixed with propanil-SC with an observed control of 60% compared with an expected control of 89%. vi Floating water primrose, when treated with halosulfuron plus prosulfuron at 55 g ha-1 mixed with propanil-SC, had an observed control of 68% compared with an expected control of 80% resulting in an antagonistic response.
