I Could Be Yours is a work of fiction that explores the music scene of the 1980s on Hollywood’s Sunset Strip, where glam metal bands flocked from all over the country to four famous nightclubs in a one-mile radius of each other, hoping to make it big. Young women, usually strippers who had the money and time to help, supported many of these bands. Through the eyes of protagonist Daisy O’Donnell, the book examines the way a genre of music criticized for being all style, no substance, and deeply misogynistic ended up becoming popularized through the help of young women who were forgotten once bands made it big. The book uses the artifice of glam metal to explore issues of identity, as well as the motivations, victories, and tragedies involved in making someone else’s dream your own, all set against the dangerous, thrilling backdrop of sex, drugs, and rock and roll.
