Abstract

This paper discusses a continuous model and a combined event-process discrete model for simulating pipeline construction by employing SLAM II. The continuous model addresses the continuous progress of the construction process on a higher level. The combined event-process discrete model describes pipeline construction on the operational level. The study indicates that the combined model is more flexible and more powerful for modeling complex construction operations than the continuous model, however at the price of requiring a better understanding to the actual construction operations and requiring more detailed information.
