Abstract
Results of an experimental study are given in which the polymerization of alpha -ethynyl naphtalene, (EN) with Ziegler soluble catalysts and tertiary phosphine-transition metal complexes has been investigated. The influence of some reaction parameters (polymerization temperature, temperature of the first catalyst-monomer contact, catalyst nature and concentration, etc. ) have been followed and two different mechanisms of reaction of EN with the said catalysts were proposed. The obtained polymers were analyzed from the point of view of their structural and electrophysical properties. Property data are tabulated. It is concluded that taking into consideration electrophysical properties, EN polymers can be classified as rubi-conjugated polymer to agree Pohl's classification.
